There has always been a tension in the photography world between objectivity and subjectivity. On the surface it seems that photographs are a reliable representation of reality, but because a human is always behind the camera, each image comes with a wide range of artistic elements. Decisions such as camera settings, equipment choices, timing the shutter, what is excluded from the frame, postprocessing techniques, and presentation all imbue images with unique creative choices that make it impossible for them to tell a complete story of reality.
It can be very rewarding to create something entirely new that did not exist before and makes me feel like I'm adding my own voice to the discussion of the natural world. Photographs in this collection each contain an element of creativity from me, whether that be a visual metaphor for an idea or emotion, or an abstract study of visual elements.
